The multistep custom design process begins with an initial consultation to define the scope of the project and moves through the conceptual phase, design development and the working drawing stage. The design is an evolution of a concept, moving from that concept into a constructed home or addition. The major elements and needs of the client, as well as specific construction site and budget restraints are refined down to the building details (the shape of the cabinets or the number of shelves in a bookcase). Good custom design is not just putting sketches down on paper or picking a plan of the month. All the elements in good design need to relate to each other in scale and materials.
