About the Designer

Tom Campbell creates unique residential designs that reflect the client's individual needs and personality. He believes that design is tailoring a functional plan to the client's needs - aesthetic, financial and physical.

Campbell begins the multistep design process with the initial consultation and moves into the conceptual phase, then design development and the working drawing stage. Campbell say's that "It's crucial that the client understands that design is the evolution of a concept into a constructed home or addition. The process begins with the major elements and needs (costs, room size, styles, etc.) and continually works its way down to the fine details (the shape of the cabinets or the number of shelves in a bookcase.) Good design is a lot more than just throwing some sketches down on paper. All the elements in good design need to relate to each other in scale and materials. Many times the house is still being refined as the house is being built."

Tom Campbell began his design career in 1985 and has now designed well over 150 residential projects. Services vary from simple consultations, landscape design, additions and renovations, to large custom homes. He spent several summers working in the residential building trades while completing his undergraduate degree in Technical Education. Currently he teaches graphic design, desktop publishing, photography and architectural drafting at a local high school. In 1993 he produced an educational video on the Residential Design Process as part of his work towards his MA in design from Marywood College. He is currently the Vice President of the Pennsylvania chapter of AIBD, the American Institute of Building Designers, where he is an award winning designer. He says, "I want you to understand that I am a Residential Designer not an architect. I am a design specialist who concentrates on homes. I've developed an excellent relationship with many builders and clients; builders because I understand residential construction and bring that practical understanding to the designs that I produce , and clients because I care about their personal needs and do all I can to help them get the home or addition that they really want."

Tom's success as a designer has its roots in his natural problem-solving skills combined with an acute desire to help people. His artistic skills and interest in architectural history make him a designers designer. All things considered, if you are interested in excellent design and value the creative guidance of an experienced designer to help lead you from the concept to the final working prints then we look forward to working with you on your project.
